What's Still Sitting Half-Done in Your Kajabi Backend?
Sep 08, 2026
September doesn't need a longer to-do list. It needs you to finish what's already on it.
The kids went back to school last week, and for the first time since June, I sat down at my desk without one ear listening for someone asking for a snack or needing to mediate a conflict. It felt like a fresh start.
And I realised that I do this every September. It's not just a new school year with new shoes, backpacks and all the tempting new stationary. I have come to treat September like a second January, a quieter, more realistic new year than the one that shows up in the dead of winter with hopeful resolutions or goals.
So I did what I always do. I opened a blank page and started brainstorming a list of goals to work on for this last quarter of the year.
And as I wrote my list, I realised something. Almost everything on that list wasn't new. It was things I'd already started. The welcome email sequence I began drafting in the spring and never finished. The sales page that's been sitting at "90% done" since a launch three months ago. The automation I built once, tested once, and haven't looked at since.
If you're anything like me, your September goals list looks less like fresh ambition and more like a backlog wearing a trench coat.

The Backlog Behind the Goals
Here's what nobody tells you about running a business solo, or close to it: the tech and marketing tasks don't stop needing attention just because life got busy. They just quietly move to the bottom of the list. And they stay there. Not because you don't care, but because you were doing the thing only you can do: showing up for clients, writing the offer, having the actual conversations that grow the business — while the backend waited its turn.
A few of the usual suspects:
- The sales page you built for a launch and never fully finished styling
- The checkout page you're fairly sure is connected properly, but haven't actually tested since
- The welcome email that's been sitting in drafts since spring
- The weekly newsletter you planned out but didn't start sending
- The course module you recorded but never uploaded
None of this means you're behind. It means you're human, and you were doing the parts of the business that actually needed you.
Why September Feels Like the Right Time to Notice
There's something about a new school year that makes space for this kind of honesty. The rhythm resets. The house gets quiet again. And for a lot of us, September ends up being a more truthful check-in point than January ever was, because by now you've actually lived a few months of the plans you made back then.
This is a good moment to ask: what's the one thing on my list that isn't a new goal, but an old one I never finished?
Finish Before You Add
I'd encourage you to try something different this September. Before you add anything new to the list, go back through and circle what's already half-done. Not to feel guilty about it, but to give yourself permission to close those loops first.
A few ways to do that without it becoming its own overwhelming project:
- Pick one unfinished piece and give it a single afternoon this week
- Ask honestly: does this still matter, or can it come off the list entirely?
- If it's tech-related and outside your zone of genius, that's not a sign to keep pushing it down. That's a sign it's exactly the kind of thing someone else could take off your plate.
Ready to Close the Loop?
You don't need a longer goals list this fall. You need the backend of your business caught up to where your ambition already is.
That's exactly what The Kajabi Advantage is for — ongoing, done-for-you support so the unfinished sales page, the untested checkout, the welcome email still sitting in drafts, all of it gets handled month to month instead of piling up quietly in the background.
